A soft star on a slender wooden handle, light enough for small hands and sturdy enough for every day of make-believe. For years I made these by hand and sold them in my shop, standing in vases like bunches of flowers. I don't make them anymore; here I show you how to make them, so you can bring Fable Heart magic into your own home.

Skill level: Intermediate
Finished size: 38 cm long; the star is 14.5 cm across
Suggested fabrics: Silver sequin mesh for the front of the star, backed with calico
You will need: Silver sequin mesh and calico, about 20 × 20 cm each; a 6 mm × 350 mm beech dowel; medium cream pom-pom trim; toy stuffing; a hot glue gun; matching thread
Inside: A six-page A4 PDF with a full-size star template and illustrated step-by-step instructions, sent by email after purchase
Sewing: Machine or hand back stitch
Care: Spot clean only
